The Sixers and the Mavericks may not be the only matchup you can see at the Wells Fargo Center tonight… kinda makes me want to buy a ticket.

The 30-29 Sixers are on a four-game winning streak (and 7-3 in their last 10 games). They’re above the .500 mark for the first time this season. And they’ll face a true test tonight when they take on the Dallas Mavericks  at the Wells Fargo Center.

The Mavs (43-16) have the third best record in the league, and they certainly portray themselves to be a much tougher obstacle than the Rockets, Wizards, Pistons, and Cavaliers… the four teams the Sixers beat to compile their latest winning streak.

However, this may not be the only attraction you can see at WFC tonight. Controversial Mavs owner Mark Cuban and the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, author of “Friday Night Lights”, and current Daily Beast blogger Buzz Bissinger (say that 10 times fast) could square off courtside, after a war of words over Twitter saw the two have quite the exchange. Both men will be present at tonight’s game, and there’s no way to predict what will happen.

Find out how the whole mess started after the jump. Read the rest at Crossing Broad.

"Michael Vick is heeeeerrrrre! Everybody, gets, a carrrrr!"

Pay no mind to the fact that the Eagles have yet to franchise Michael Vick for the 2011 season. Until action is taken on that front, you’ll have to find your Michael Vick news elsewhere…

…like, on Oprah.

My Fox Philly broke the news this morning that Vick will appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show after speaking with Dr. Lee Cohen, a podiatrist for Unequal Technologies. Cohen will be a part of the taping in Chicago, to take place next Tuesday, February 22.

Unequal Technologies is “significant” because they were the first company to sign Vick to an endorsement deal since he was jailed for dogfighting in December 2007. Read the full article at Crossing Broad.

Here, Juan Castillo is pictured with two people. All three men are equally qualified to be the Eagles defensive coordinator.

The Eagles have to be the strangest team in the land. They are more puzzling off the field than they ever are on it, and yesterday was probably the most unsettling and confusing example this front office has ever offered us.

The team has hired their offensive line coach, Juan Castillo, to be the new defensive coordinator…

…yes, their OFFENSIVE line coach is their new DEFENSIVE coordinator.

But apparently it’s okay because Castillo was a linebacker in college. And his son currently plays in Iowa’s secondary. Given that knowledge, this should now make perfect sense to you.

Except for that it doesn’t. This search over the past three weeks makes almost no sense to anyone on the outside because until last night’s press conference, the Eagles haven’t said a freakin’ word.

It’s irresponsible how this team handles the media and now Andy Reid and the people above him look completely irrational by making this move. Over the past 23 days, fans and the media have been subjected to rumor after rumor, assumption after assumption, and we have been told nothing.

So we talk, we hear things, we believe sources. Dick Jauron, Jim Mora, Bill Davis, Dennis Allen, Jeff Fisher, Darren Perry, Jon Hoke, Joe Woods, Mike Trgovak, Winston Moss, and it ends with Juan Castillo. This carousel of names, this vat of confusion that Eagles fans have been drowning in should have ended with a name that would make them feel better about the length of this search, something that would create a sense of justification. "What I'm trying to say, Bob, is that I don't know when to shut up."

Roger Goodell announced to owners that he will take a pay cut if NFL players don’t take to the gridiron for the 2011 season.

That’s just swell, but how much exactly will he earn in the event of a lockout?

NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora reported, and Mike Florio has confirmed that Roger Goodell’s 2011 salary will be… View full article »

Cliff Lee's best days could be ahead of him. Brian Cashman's mouth could ensure that his are behind him.

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was asked a question yesterday that he never should have answered. During a luncheon sponsored by New York’s WFAN Radio yesterday, Cashman was asked whether or not Derek Jeter would finish his new Yankees contract in the outfield.

He replied in the affirmative.

Here, he answers a question about a freshly-signed integral part of their franchise and delivers an answer that isn’t going to help anything. Jeter signed a three-year, $51 million deal with a fourth-year option. When the press conference was held in December, Jeter used the word ‘angry’ to describe the tone of his talks with the Yankees in working towards the new contract, but said he would put any bad feelings behind him.

So, if Jeter is willing to do that, why would Cashman even address a question like this? He knows the market his team is in and he is more than aware of the popularity of his long-tenured shortstop. This was careless and borderline classless and that’s putting it lightly. View full article »
