Sixers sophomore Jrue Holiday led all scorers last night with 24 points.
The streaking Philadelphia 76ers took on what is possibly the NBA’s worst team last night when they faced off with the Los Angeles Clippers. What made the night a bit more interesting is that the league’s worst squad also has the league’s best rookie, 6’10 Blake Griffin out of Oklahoma. Here are some thoughts I have on last night’s game.
- Last night’s attendance was absolutely dismal. For a team that has won seven of their last eight games at home, that’s not encouraging. On average, the team’s attendance is fourth-worst in the league at just under “14,000″. But having gone last night, I’m not even sure that 5,000 people were there. Seriously.
- Spencer Hawes looked terrific until the 4th quarter! He scored 16 points last night and had 12 rebounds. In a five-game stretch, he’s averaged just over 12 points a game. It was hard to tell where he fit on the Sixers team, but he’s certainly making a case now.
- Lou Williams looked awful in all facets of his game last night. He shot 1-for-9 from the floor. He had multiple open looks that he couldn’t finish off. It had become so bad, that in the fourth quarter, fans were screaming “No!” and “Don’t shoot!” when he had an open opportunity beyond the arc.
- Blake Griffin scored 20 points and had 18 rebounds on the night, but I didn’t get to see any of those “SportsCenter quality” dunks that I was literally salivating over for the duration of the evening. I’m almost certain now that he’ll have four massive dunks against the Pistons on Friday night, just because.
- The Sixers were just dominant in the second half, they took their first lead of the night in the third quarter and never looked back. Their points off turnovers stat was spectacular, as the Clippers gave away the ball 15 times resulting in 23 points.
- Only five turnovers for the Sixers last night… WHAT?!
- Doug Collins “pound” to his players is the most awkward and possibly funniest thing I’ve ever seen. I tried to get a quick pic on my iPhone but couldn’t get it out in time. It’s one of those “you had to be there” moments.
- It was a bit intimidating looking at the big screen and seeing the opponents the Sixers will have coming up on their eight-game road trip. They’ll see Orlando, Chicago, Boston, and Denver in their first four. They may have won seven of nine, but this trip will be the biggest test of the season for the young Sixer squad.
