"Ehhhhh... this is gonna suck."

Two games are on the slate today to kick off the NFL’s Wild Card Weekend. The New Orleans Saints traveled halfway across the country, where they will play the Seahawks in rainy Seattle, and the AFC South Champion Indianapolis Colts host a team that fell backwards into the playoffs this season, the New York Jets.

I can’t make three picks today unless I start fiddling again with over/under, and we all know how well that went last week. For those of you who missed it, I took the over of 42.5 in the Bears-Packers game…

… they scored 13 points between them. So, I’ll just leave the over/under alone.

Without any further adieu, here are my picks for Wild Card Saturday! View full article »

Do you want this guy running your football team?

It has been reported all week, and now it’s official. The Raiders have elected to part ways with Tom Cable. The move would have made more sense if it was made over a year ago, especially after allegations that the coach punched an assistant during training camp four weeks before the 2009 regular season began. But consider these numbers…

Four. Five. Four. Two. Four. Five. Five. Eight.

Those are the number of wins for the Oakland Raiders spanning from 2003-10, after their Super Bowl appearance in 2002. That’s right, 29 wins in seven years, and then a 2010 record of 8-8. This year’s showing would be considered mediocre by traditional standards, but it’s a great improvement from what the Raider Nation has been subject to in the years previous. Throw in that the Raiders went undefeated in their division this year and you’re left to ask yourself… View full article »

Let's hope Michael Vick isn't tagging in Kevin Kolb for good.

Let's hope Michael Vick isn't tagging in Kevin Kolb for good.

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com is reporting that Michael Vick could be benched next week in the Wild Card game if he struggles in the game. You can read Florio’s report here.

Florio overheard Sal Paolintonio on ESPN Radio this morning say that Vick’s inability to recognize blitzes hurt the team several times in the Eagles loss the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday. According to SalPal, Reid discussed the issue twice with Vick that evening, and has had him study the 3-4 defense of the Green Bay Packers while he sat out of practices this week. NFL Week 17: Take Three

"Oh yeah?! Well... if this flag was white, I would have thrown it a LONG time ago!"

Happy New Year! And happy NFL Sunday!

The Christmas holidays, combined with my commitment to NBC last week, prevented me from posting my Week 16 choices. I am happy to report, however, that I posted a 2-0 record last week!

I know what you’re saying. In fact, you may be saying a couple of things. One, there is no proof that I went 2-0. And two, this column is called “Take Three”, so I should have bet three games.

Well, I did. Pick number three was the Philadelphia Eagles giving two touchdowns to the Minnesota Vikings, but that game was declared a “no-action” as a result of the postponement from Sunday to Tuesday…

…whew.

Anyway, my Colts pick (-3) over the Raiders and the Pats (-9) over the Bills puts me at 44-37-0 for the year. I would love to get to ten games above .500 in the final week of the regular season, and so here is my attempt to do exactly that with my picks for Week 17! View full article »

This guy is playing the best football of his life. How upsetting is that?

  • I’m being forced against my will to reevaluate my long standing opinion that Jay Cutler “sucks at football”. 11 touchdowns and four interceptions in his last five games, and the Bears are 4-1 in that stretch…
  • Jay Cutler is from Santa Claus, Indiana. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
  • I’m watching Good Day Philadelphia right now, and I hate it.
  • Why couldn’t Dwayne Bowe play like this when I started him in my fantasy football playoffs two weeks ago?
  • I love seeing the Giants fall apart every once in awhile. Eli Manning threw 17 more interceptions yesterday, or something like that. View full article »
